Success Stories
DCM’s Design, Strategy, and Vision combine to produce results.
Dave McAninch, Principal and Design Partner of DCM Architecture, Inc., has had a successful and varied career in architecture, with a track record that speaks to his visionary design strategy and results-oriented work ethic.
- In just one year as Director of Architecture for Winmark Homes in Suwanee, Georgia, Dave was able to launch the company’s building record from 250 homes constructed annually to more than 400 homes built and sold each year. While at Winmark, Dave also revolutionized the construction cycle and introduced value engineering to create all new product, resulting in an average 1.5% margin increase across the board for all developments in 2003.
- During the summer of 2006, Dave collaborated with Bouy Brothers of Savannah, Georgia to revitalize a stagnant subdivision that had previously averaged only four sales per year. The Buoy Brothers’ confidence in Dave’s vision paid off. Dave conceptualized, land-planned and designed a new clubhouse that immediately increased the pool of buyers and stimulated sales in the sluggish neighborhood market. The project was such a success that to this day, the Bouy Brothers begin construction on at least one new home each month due to the spike in demand resulting from the new clubhouse.
- In 2005 Dave partnered with Hidden Pointe, a relatively new homebuilder from Atlanta, and guided the company toward a successful venture in the exclusive Savannah market. Initially formed to tap into the lower-end town home market, Hidden Pointe was able to make a flawless transition into the semi-custom town home market with Dave at the helm. Dave’s experience and knowledge of the southeastern market led to the development of an executive collection of high-end town homes which allowed this first-time builder to meet and exceed ambitious sales goals right from the start.
- Fresh out of California State Polytechnic University, Dave served as site supervisor for an elite custom home builder in Southern California. As an intern, Dave performed design work, managed site subcontractors as well as scheduling and change orders, and worked as a builder. This invaluable experience separates Dave from the competition: “This [experience] gave me unparalleled experience regarding the real world of homebuilding,” he says. While most Architects are only trained in planning and design, Dave understands the business from a practical perspective, allowing him to tailor his designs with the builder in mind.
Testimonials/Quotes
"Dave has the unique ability to perceive our clients needs & desires and implement them. His talent allowed us to put our vision into the field efficiently & swiftly with an eye on cost containment and value engineering. Our clients love the final product, the views, & the vision – and most importantly it sells! The team at DCM helped us efficiently utilize our land constraints to maximize it for our customers as well as our bottom line. Dave’s designs won us multiple awards the first time out, it was an awesome experience! "

"We had tried other outside architects in the past, but we were in a precarious position of needing two product lines at a fast pace. Most others couldn’t have pulled off what DCM provided. Not only did both product lines get designed quickly, but spanned several demographics – it was like getting a 2 for 1 deal. While some houses can be “dummy downed” and others “pumped up”, both product lines were flexible enough to do both, effectively. The integral use of arches, columns, & niches made them practically sell themselves."

"When I was first hired as division president I scoured through our entire existing product line, much of it needing some additional design help. One firms condos and courtyard homes needed no improvement, those were from DCM. I liked the simplicity of which they all could be built, but still had custom look on the front elevations. Even the workforce housing townhomes DCM designed for us could easily be upgraded and “trimmed out” to sell for 100k more. That versatility meant a lot to me as I’m always balancing my bottom line with the pulse of the market."

"We hired Dave because we knew we needed better townhome product to compete with the nationals. DCM not only came up with superior design solutions, but value engineered the structure during the design phase. Not many other architects have engineering capabilities. We also hired Dave to manage and review the framing truss layouts for all floor plans on the first 6-plex building. It went up without a single framing problem! Never in my years had this happen before. "

"We did things totally backwards. We hired a local contractor to fix our roof and spice up our front facade. Our roof came out nice but the front didn’t. We told the contractor they needed to do something more if they wanted to retain the job, that’s when Dave was brought in. He drove by our “deconstructed” house and a week later presented everyone with a French Country rendering of his vision. Our initial response was, awesome, that’s exactly what I want! He gave us a clean front porch; some new shake siding, a curving roof, and stone work – it was perfect. Without his knowledge and expertise we were certainly headed for disaster."
